JAWdropping Experience
Before I start, let's just get this out of the way. No, I have never seen Jaws before this week. Let's end it there.
This film was my favorite film we have watched in class thus far. The plot, camera angles, shots, actors, and everything else was terrific! The opening scene definitely drew me into the film. I love when films begin with a highly anticipated scene to set the movie. That's exactly what this film did. It began with a young couple wanting to go for a swim in the ocean. The girl ran into the ocean first and the boy stayed behind on the shore. Then, to be blunt, the girl gets eaten by a shark. This begins the police and a shark eating frenzy. However, the mayor doesn't want to close the beach down because it's what the community is known for. Once, kids begin getting eaten by the shark, then the community begins to panic because they have seen first hand what this shark is capable of.
These scenes of people being eaten by this shark are so real and raw. The film director made these scenes look so real, without being too gruesome. (That's what I appreciated most.) The film continues as three men begin to try and hunt down and kill this shark. This part in the movie is when I gained appreciation for the sound and lighting department. They did an excellent job making this part of the movie so real. A fun fact about the film's killer shark is that it was played by three full-scale mechanical models towed by submerged “sleds” or guided by hidden scuba divers. The crew nicknamed the shark “Bruce” after Spielberg’s lawyer, Bruce Ramer. This is just one fun fact of this film, but for more I have linked a bunch down below!!
I am planning on watching Jaws 2 over break and I'm so excited! I love being introduced to new movies that have sequels because it means the story lines are much more in depth than other films. This film was a great way to revive me for the rest of the semester because the last few films have not been my favorites. Only a couple more weeks until the semester is over!
WHOA. WHOA! WHOA! WHOA! I'm so glad you loved JAWS! I had no idea you were a newb. It really is a wonder, isn't it? Thanks for sharing the fun facts, Anna.
